Based in Athens

Alexis Avlamis (b. 1979, Athens, Greece) is a visual artist whose work explores memory, identity, and the relationship between language and image. He received early training in painting and ceramics at Bennington College in Vermont and later earned a BFA (Hons) in Painting and Mosaic from the Athens School of Fine Arts.

Working through improvisation, intuition, and a stream-of-consciousness approach, Avlamis develops works that move between the material and the imagined. He is particularly known for his innovative use of the ancient encaustic technique. His work has been exhibited internationally in galleries and museums, and he has participated in artist residencies in the United States, China, and Finland. He has also contributed to experimental archaeology projects related to the architectural polychromy of the Parthenon, and his practice has received several international awards and distinctions.
