Based in Skopje

Sergej Andreevski was born in Skopje, North Macedonia in 1960, where he still lives and creates. His artistic style is characterised by spontaneous brushes that drip and dart across the canvas, capturing faces, flora, mythical creatures in a raw and unpredictable manner. He often begins to spontaneously pour paint onto the canvas; literally pouring himself onto the painting. These inner archives of his always result in the emergence of a magical surreal world. He later finalizes this world by working on balance, composition, rhythm. He never uses sketches, he draws his entire inner world onto the canvas,endlessly changing it, until the moment when his inner instincts tell him that the image is finished.

Andreevski graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts in Skopje in 1985, followed by postgraduate studies abroad with scholarships from the Galleria di Arte Moderna in Rome, Italy, and from the city of Nuremberg, Germany. He has participated in more than 200 group exhibitions in his own country, and in Europe, the USA, Japan, and China. He is a winner of many national awards, and his paintings and drawings are owned by state institutions and museums internationally as well as by private collectors.

In preparation for his participation in the 2025 Amalia Gardens Residency, Andreevski is focusing his gaze on the textures of stone and the sun-bleached tones of the landscape that will surround him for two weeks. Andreevski is fascinated by the lines he notices on every hill on the island. They start at the lowest point - at the sea, and one gets the impression that they continue somewhere far away in the clouds in some other universe. Traveling and creating in various places around the world gives Sergej new spiritual and creative energy and makes him richer. He says that there is nothing more beautiful for an artist than to have working conditions
and to be free to create. Of course, meetings with fellow artists are one of the most
exciting challenges for an artist.
