Gerlinde Pistner was born 1954 in Schollgrippen, near Frankfurt am Main, Germany. She lives and creates in Nuremberg. A visual artist known for her work in printmaking and drawing, particularly in lithography, but who also dives into multimedia and design-focused projects. Characterized by a vivid palette and a painting style rooted in the naif tradition, she creates radiant portraits and landscapes. Guided by an intuitive mastery of color, she captures emotional truths - impressions of reality, and the truths carried by memory.
Pistner studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Nuremberg, where she was a master student (Meisterschulerin) under Professor Phaler. Among her notable series is "Wald" (1999), a suite of four color lithographs printed on Arches Butten paper, reflecting her refined graphic sensibility and engagement with the natural world. Pistner has participated in numerous group exhibitions in Germany, and her work is held in private collections. In addition to her artistic work, Gerlinde Pistner organizes symposia, is a board member of the art association "Borgo e.V.", and is a long-standing member of Ponte Cultura e.V., a Brazil/Germany exchange program. She has participated in numerous national and international exhibitions.
With her work often exploring the themes of nature and landscape, conveyed through finely tuned compositions and a subtle use of color, Pistner feels that the 2025 Amalia Gardens Residency offers an opportunity for slowed down observation of a timeless topography. She works very intuitively, in constant dialogue with the painting she creates, and is therefore curious about how the residency will affect her as an individual and her artistic practice.
